Coming Home to a Logan & Cove Mattress (plus a giveaway!)
There is a certain magic in exploring unfamiliar places, in searching the far reaching corners of the world and feeling a connection with new destinations. This longing to discover the unknown is why many of us travel (myself included), but over the years I’ve realized that there’s a peacefulness and contentment that only being at home can bring.
Often times when you're in the comfort of your own home there are moments, whole days even, where it's easy to be reminded of what you miss out on by going away.
Like taking the time to make a home cooked meal in your own kitchen with fresh ingredients from the local farmer’s market, or strolling through your neighborhood and greeting a few familiar faces along the way. Maybe it's whiling away an entire rainy day in cozy pajamas because you don’t have anywhere important to go, or staying up late with a good book, catching up on Netflix, or sharing laughs with long-time friends. Better still, it's falling asleep in a bed that's all your own, and waking up refreshed.
That’s why when Logan & Cove, a made-in-Canada mattress company, asked me to review their signature pillow-top mattress and write about the importance of having a home base, I jumped at the opportunity. Read on below for my full review, plus a chance for you to win a brand new Logan & Cove mattress at the end of this article (sorry, this one is for Canadians only!).
All about the Logan & Cove mattress
If you’re unfamiliar with the company, Logan & Cove sell their mattresses direct-to-consumer in boxes that arrive directly to your front door. The mattresses come in a box and only need to be unwrapped before automatically and easily expanding on your bed frame.
At the moment, they only sell one item: a 14” medium-firm luxury pillow-top mattress comprised of six layers for maximum comfort. The eucalyptus-derived fiber top cover is extra smooth on the skin and wicks moisture away from the body for a cool and dry sleep (can't wait to test this out once the temperatures start to rise) while the mattress core contains 2″ of supportive soy-infused eco-foam that ensures ideal spinal alignment when sleeping. Additionally, individually wrapped pocketed coils and memory foam absorb movement for an undisturbed and deeper sleep.
Although I can’t quite pinpoint each layer individually while lying on the mattress, what I do feel is the combined effort of these elements that make this hybrid mattress comfortable and supportive.
Like other bed-in-a-box companies, Logan & Cove only sell their mattresses online, and are therefore able to cut out brick and mortar running costs, offering customers a high quality mattress at an affordable price point without the pressure of a salesperson breathing down your neck. Currently, this mattress is also the only Canadian inner-spring/memory foam hybrid that comes directly to your doorstep in a box.
Admittedly, I was a little skeptical of receiving a mattress that I had never even laid eyes on before in person, let alone laid down on for a few minutes to get a general feeling for it. However, I was happy to find out that Logan & Cove offer a 120-night trial period, along with a full refund and free pick up if the mattress doesn’t quite work out.
Logan & Cove and the environment
One of the things I have been focusing on here at Sidetracked and in my personal life is to incorporate more environmentally friendly and sustainable practices because, let’s be honest, the travel industry and so many other industries, aren’t doing our planet any favors. Unfortunately, mattresses are a similar notoriously dirty business. From the initial harsh fumes after unpacking to the toxic chemicals used to manufacture the fabrics, it can be a real challenge finding a mattress that won’t cause extra harm to both our environment and health.
While the Logan & Cove mattress isn’t entirely perfect, it’s getting a lot of things right. The cooling gel, contouring, and support foams are certified by the CertiPUR-US® program and they don’t contain any harmful chemicals, heavy metals, or impact air quality. Looking back, all the mattresses I have owned up until now always emitted the dreadful new mattress smell, but I was more than pleased to find that the Logan & Cove mattress had absolutely no peculiar fumes whatsoever.
But what happens to mattresses that are returned to Logan & Cove? The company doesn’t resell or restock returned mattresses, instead they do their best to donate them to local charities and community organizations. When that isn’t possible, they strive to find recycling companies that will pick up and dispose of the mattress in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
Final thoughts about the mattress
It certainly makes for a comfortable, restful sleep. Shipping was speedy and it was beyond simple to set up the mattress. I've particularly enjoyed the incorporated memory foam that prevents me from feeling my husband's movements as well as the smooth pillow-top cover that is buttery soft yet doesn't leave me feeling like I'm sinking into the bed.
